American Association of University Women

The mission of the American Association of University Women, the AAUW Leadership and Training Institute, and the AAUW Educational Foundation is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.  Primary goals include: improving educational options for women and girls through increased funding for public education; ensuring that women and girls are not left behind in the increasingly important fields of math, science and technology; advocating for a strong social security system, pay equity, and other public policy issues relevant to achieving gender equity.  AAUW is also developing and investing in the next generation of women leaders through conferences and leadership training.  AAUW is dedicated to improving the opportunities of women and girls worldwide through improved access to education for increased economic security.

The power of AAUW stems from its over 100,000 members, 1,300 branches and 450 college/university partners nationwide.  For over 125 years AAUW has been a leading voice promoting education and equity for women and girls.

Through its nationwide network, AAUW provides a wide range of leadership opportunities for women and girls. It lobbies national, state and local governments and influences public debate on critical societal issues such as education, civil rights and workplace equity.  AAUW sponsors community programs that promote opportunities for women and girls; publishes research on women, girls and education; provides the world’s largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women; mobilizes voters on issues of concern to women; trains tomorrow’s leaders through professional development and conferences; and fights sex discrimination in education.

AAUW has two affiliated corporations which play an integral role in the implementation and success of its goals and objectives.

·          The AAUW Educational Foundation is the largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women.

·          The AAUW Leadership and Training Institute provide women’s and girls’ leadership training.

AAUW is proud to be a Global Member for the 2008 Global Summit of Women, and to be counted among the many prestigious corporations, nonprofits, international organizations, and associations committed to the economic, political, and social empowerment of women.  It is through collaboration, dialogue, partnerships and action that we can create a lasting synergy to advance women on all fronts and build a better future for all generations.
